Dervisci
The Dervisci tumblers by Michele De Lucchi were inspired by the spinning movement of
the turning-lathe used to model sheet metal on a die, progressively shaping the object’s
volume. De Lucchi associates the rotating machine with the dance of whirling dervishes,
who reach a state of trance by reciting prayers while continuously spinning round and
round, a symbol of planets orbiting. The sculptural, dynamic design of the three Dervisci
tumblers is enhanced by the different finishes of the metal surface: polished steel; steel
with copper PVD coating; steel with brass PVD coating; and steel with satined gunmetal
PVD coating.
